The Final Countdown

This is it then - the final week of the 1st half of the season and a couple of people are going to be getting paid next week (well, maybe the week after, seeing as I'm off to Vegas tomorrow!)

It looks like Ashley is well set to take the spoils for 1st place and a £60 prize, but there is a queue of 5 players within about £1.20 of each other right behind so the destination of the £25 runners up prize is anyone's guess.

Best of luck everyone, and remember even those of us languishing at the bottom still have a chance of some dosh as we reset the scores for the 2nd half as of next week.

12 Wags of Christmas

Merry Christmas Footy Nappers!

It would seem that the festivities have got the better of most of us as this must be the lowest turnout of the year so far, despite the extra couple of days before the kick off.

Anyway, everything should be updated in the sheet on the left now and a bit further down you will find the latest table.

It's pretty tight around 2nd place at the moment with only New Year weekend left after this week before the Top 2 prizes are decided for the 1st Half.  Good luck to those in contention!

Still a recommended tip today though, despite the lack of entries:

Sunderland v Everton (Home Win @ 6/4)

Bagles is Back!

After a dozen weeks on the sidelines, Pete has decided that the rest of us have enough of a head start and has returned with an 11/5 winner to put a few places between himself and the foot of the table.

However he is still well off Ashley who had another cracking result on the weekend with 5/1 Wigan to reclaim his spot at the top of the table and put himself in great shape for the 1st Half prize money.

Here is the latest table:

I can't remember if I send round confirmed prizes or not by email, but have added a new section to the spreadsheet to detail them - £60 & £25 for the Top 2 places come year end.

There are now just 3 sets of fixtures left in the 1st Half of the competition:

  • 17th/18th December
  • 26th/27th December
  • 31st December/1st January
We won't be covering the fixtures on Wednesday 21st December, and the first set of matches for the 2nd Half will take place on the weekend of 7th/8th January.

Liverpool v Balotelli

The main man is back in action this weekend against Liverpool so will be interesting to see if him and Man City can keep up their awesome form.  I was surprised that only Ashley picked the away win for that match, and we wouldn't want to be betting against him at the moment.

Just the one recommended tip this week, although this is more due to desperate lowly players rather than real sense of confidence I feel:

Chelsea v Wolves (Away Win @ 16/1)

Oh and here's the latest table.  Think I've finally found a neat way of embedding these into the page.

Everyone's a little bit racist

Poor old John Terry can't do anything right can he?  I thought it was consensus these days that everyone's a little bit racist so it's not such a big deal any more.  As least he didn't compound the error like Blatter and find a random black man to hug.

Anyhow, back to the naps where Ashley got yet another winner to start fading into the distance, while Chris (& Jo) moved up to 2nd place in pursuit.

I did update the spreadsheet on Monday this week so hopefully you noticed you could check your scores right after the weekend this time, although I am struggling to get a proper post up more than once a week.

One more recommended tip this week picked by two players:

Wigan v Blackburn (Home Win @ 8/5)

And here is the table at the end of Week 14:

England v Spain

I think it shows how lacklustre our international football team has become that I had forgotten all about playing the World and European champions until someone reminded me yesterday.

Bit gutting really as I'm told you could get odds against on Spain earlier in the week which sounds massive - even 10/11 still looks pretty tasty and a couple of you agree by picking it as your tip this week (and hence it becomes another of our Recommended Tips):

England v Spain (Away Win @ 10/11)

The weekly no shows seem to be increasing so give the absconders a nudge of you see them.  While it makes winning an easier proposition, it's more fun when there is plenty of healthy competition.

Below is the latest table - with Ashley still riding high:

Glory Hunters

So, the one man show in North London managed to spring an upset on Chelsea and reward a couple of our wily contingent with a rather tasty 5/1 win last week.  Phil was so pleased with himself he's decided to put his feet up and have a week off!

So we arrive at Week 13 with the top clubs playing the minnows and everyone seems to have got a bit excited by the double digit odds and have pushed the boat out this week to try and leapfrog Ashley in one big effort.  Ever heard the one about the hare and the tortoise?

Arsenal was one of the recommendations last week, and we have one more this time around:

Fulham v Spurs (Away Win @ 11/8)

Pumpkin Football

I hate puns so will resist saying that Ashley's form so far this season has been spookily good (oops).

A bit late with the table update this week but will get the Week 12 tips sorted and in the sheet tomorrow morning so that you all know what to cheer against while watching Sky Sports News.

EDIT: It turns out there are a couple of "recommended" selections having been picked by 2 or more people in the group, so seeing as this little test is still running profitably here they are if you fancy a real wager:

Chelsea v Arsenal (Away Win @ 5/1)
West Brom v Liverpool (Home Win @ 16/5)

Have a brooming good weekend witchever activity your choose to partake in, and keep your fingers crossed to ghost past a few people in the table come Monday.

Unlucky Wales

Shame for Wales this morning who played bloody well in defeat.  Looks like the final effectively takes place tomorrow then, with a bunch of useless froggies ready to turn up for their undeserved runners up medals next week.

Back to the football then, and last week was a bumper one as a group with a bunch of people picking up some tasty priced wins.  Ashley is still up top but there has been some switching around below him to keep things interesting.  Here's the latest table:

Name Total
Ashley Foulkes £5.83
Ben Brookes £4.16
Simon Woolf £3.11
Mike Butlin £1.99
Chris Walker £1.93
Terry Reeve £0.95
Dan Grant -£1.23
Jon Raab -£1.31
Will Brookes -£2.47

Jamie Reeve -£3.40
Pete Stagles -£3.67
Ian Dell -£3.70
Nigel Grant -£5.76

We also have another recommended selection this week with no fewer than three people picking Liverpool to beat Man Utd at Anfield today:

Liverpool v Man Utd (Home Win @ 2/1)

Seeing Red

Nice one Rooney, good luck with your ambition of being captain of club & country.

Odd week this time around with most of the matches already being played last night - and some successful picks so far in those international games, including both Ashley and Chris/Jo picking the Wales win.

Below is the league table before last night, although you will find a sneak preview of the new version in the sheet on the left as it is already updated with Friday results.

Oh and a couple of double picks again this week so two more for the "recommended tips" list, although unfortunately no time to actually back them as they have both won already!  It puts this little challenge over £5 up to level stakes though, so maybe we do know what we're doing?

Turkey v Germany (Away Win @ 4/3)
Wales v Switzerland (Home Win @ 10/3)

Rugby Naps

You could be forgiven for forgetting that football was even on this weekend with all the rugby action taking place.  However a full fixture list is on again so we're back with another round of Footy Naps.

Ashley continues to lead comfortably at the top with no one looking likely to compete as yet.  Early days still but how long do we wait before starting to back Norwich?!

One double selection this week means another recommended tip - although this exercise hasn't been too successful so far!

Wolves v Newcastle (Away Win @ 2/1)

Back in Action

Jotform still doesn't appear to be on top form but is working well enough to collect your tips and allow me brief access to collate them so all is well for now.

Ashley is flying high at the top of the table after another nice result last week, with the Brookes Brothers also deciding to follow the super hoops to victory that proved surprisingly comfortable.

A couple of people have plumped for Arsenal to continue their slump and get bashed up at home to Bolton tomorrow.  Having watched them the other week I wouldn't put people off that and even had a cheeky tenner on them to finish in the bottom half of the table at 16/1.  Can still get 12's with VC if you fancy that one!

In fact that double selection means it is the 3rd "recommended tip" of the season.  The QPR result last week would have made that list but for the Jotform delays - but seems a bit cheeky to aftertime on that one.

EDIT - Just noticed two of us picked the Villa away win too.

Arsenal v Bolton (Away Win @ 15/2)
QPR v Aston Villa (Away Win @ 12/5)

Best of luck tomorrow and please find below the latest table and link for next weekend:

NameTotal
Ashley Foulkes£7.38

Terry Reeve£1.58

Gremlins in the System

As many of you will have discovered, Jotform had some issues this week and so I've been unable to pull together all the selections and results as yet.

It looks like most of them went through ok though and many of you also emailed me as an alternative or backup so should be able to resolve in the next day or two.

Unfortunately I managed to pick yet another loser so hopefully you guys fared a bit better than me!

No Dive

Apologies for not posting the league table last week, although not many people had a positive result so the changes weren't major.

Bingo Dave had a bit of a mare with penalties having picked Scotland to win at home.  No dive I reckon... :)

A couple of people this week have gone for Villa to win away to Everton but seeing as someone else went for the home win I don't think we can use that as a team tip so no selection this week after picking up 1 from 2 for a minor profit in Week 4.

Right then, I'm off to the Emirates for some hospitality action.  Enjoy the sporting afternoon!

International Adventures

Oddly this week, half of the matches have already taken place by Saturday morning so many of us already know our fate.

Despite some solid sounding reasoning for their Montenegro pick away to Wales ("Montenegro are joint top and Wales have nil points!") Chris and Jo are one of many who have already failed in trying to pick an International result.

There are 2 x recommended tips this week having both been selected by two players, so in theory this is where your hard earned should be going if you want a real wager!

Swindon v Rotherham (Away Win @ 11/5)
Carlisle v MK Dons (Away Win @ 9/5)

Good luck!

Manchester Rules

Apologies for the lack of updates this weekend gents, but I've been zipping about the country without access to my laptop.

Quite a day yesterday for the Manc teams, making me look slightly silly by selecting Spurs.  Thankfully not as silly as Nigel who tipped up 13/2 Arsenal who then drifted to 8/1 before being royally spanked at Old Trafford.

Ashley is currently riding high at the top of the table, maintaining his good form from the 2nd half of last season - while 2010/11 victor Will Brookes is languishing down the bottom with a 0/3 record so far.

Name Total
Ashley Foulkes£4.20
Dan Grant£3.20
Mike Butlin£2.67
Jon Raab£1.52
David Evans£1.47
Chris Walker£1.40
Simon Woolf£0.50

Show Me The Money

So here is what we are all playing for.  A minor increase on last year with one extra player in the mix.  Due to Albie eating my HSBC security code generator I've not managed to verify the total prizes yet, so if you haven't sent it over you are in a race against the bank and the postman!

The selections sheet will be updated within the next couple of hours and I have included the link for Week 3 below already.  Due to popular demand (well, 2 people) there is now a new field added to the form allowing you to explain your justification for picking your nap of the week.

Best of luck this afternoon.

Championship Prize 1st Half Prize 2nd Half Prize
1st Place £130 1st Place £60 1st Place £60
2nd Place £75 2nd Place £25 2nd Place £25
3rd Place £50

EDIT:  Sheet is now updated with all selections for the week.  A couple of no-shows already in Week 2.

Footy Naps Selection Form - Week 3

Thursday, 18 August 2011

Ok so I lied about the prize pool info.  Have had a pretty busy week and am only doing the round-up post quickly after much badgering by early leader Mike Butlin.

Congratulations on predicting that your woeful beloved Liverpool would be held to a draw on the opening game of the season for a nice early naps result.

Overall a very positive week with 9/17 getting their selections up for nearly £12 profit overall had anyone been crazy enough to trust the group.

Let's keep that up for Week 2 - new link available now below:

Up and Running

Ok so we are off and running and it looks like this year we will have a total of 17 players involved. A couple of players from last year have ducked out, but we welcome Pete Stagles back into the fold who participated in the first incarnation of Footy Naps but sat out last season - plas a couple of brand new recruits in the form of Phil & Ryan.

The new sheet is now available via the top left link on this page. Hopefully I'll work out how to get some more automation built into it but for now the format is exactly the same as last year.

I'll confirm the prize amounts etc. when I send round the Week 1 results.

Footy Naps Version 3.0

Ok then.

Season 3 of the Footy Naps and yet another change to the way the tips are collected and distributed.  Rather than having to hunt around for the latest email with links and spreadsheets attached, the latest versions will now always be stored on this blog.

Therefore all you have to do is remember this URL and you'll have the info at your fingertips wherever you are:

footynaps.blogspot.com

Simples.

I've only received 4 payments so far so you'd best get a move on if you want to be involved from Week 1.  For those that are really keen the first form is now set up and ready for your entries.

Good luck!
